Welcome to episode #52 of Music Tech for ME. Well it has been a month and a half since out last podcast. My only excuse is just simply due to the fact that my life has just been very, very busy. But anyway… here we are with a new episode and one I think you will find of great value. I learned a valuable lesson this summer as it relates to loading music software on computers that are setup with multiple accounts. By listening to this episode, I’ll share some information that could save you from running into the same trouble I did this past summer. Please drop me a line and let me know you all are back and are listening to the shows. Blessings!

I purchased the ‘nanoKEY” and the “nanoPAD” last month and thought that I would do a review podcast of these great little devices. I also included a musical sequence I produced using only these two devices as my data entry tools. Check it out and let me know what you think. Blessings!

This week, I’m sharing some info about my new Godin Multiac SA Grand Concert classical guitar. Not only is it a fabulous guitar, it also functions as a midi controller along with my Axon AX-50 USB pitch to midi converter. Also this week, I’m asking all those that listen to please send in some feedback concerning the future of the Music Tech for ME Podcast. Changes are in the future and I want to hear some feedback from the listeners as it relates to my plans and the future of the show. <itunes:summary>This week, I'm sharing some info about my new Godin Multiac SA Grand Concert classical guitar. Not only is it a fabulous guitar, it also functions as a midi controller along with my Axon AX-50 USB pitch to midi converter. Also this week, I'm asking all those that listen to please send in some feedback concerning the future of the Music Tech for ME Podcast. Changes are in the future and I want to hear some feedback from the listeners as it relates to my plans and the future of the show. Due to the Christmas season, the next podcast will be released on or near January 15th. Till then, blessings to all and have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season.

This week’s episode of Music Tech for ME is a little unique. I had the opportunity to produce a recording project last Friday. So I decided to use this episode for sharing the recording with the listeners of Music Tech for ME. There is a very informative story that goes along with this project that I think you will find interesting. Please send me some feedback. I’m seriously contemplating producing additional podcast in the future that may take a little different direction than the shows I’ve produced in the past.
I just retured from the 2008 ATMI conference which was held in Atlanta, GA. It was a great conference and as always, it was wonderful catching up with my old, and some new, friends from around the country. Over the next several episodes, I will be presenting information about the topics that were discussed at the conference along with interviews and testimonials from various educators who were in attendance. For this week’s show, I did a live interview with the managing director of Soundtree, Jim Frankel. This was the first time I recorded a live interview with my hand held digital recorded. I used a Korg MR-1 with an AKG D5 hand held dynamic microphone. There were a few pops on the recording (which was total my fault). But other than that, I was very pleased with the live audio recording.

Welcome to episode #24 of Music Tech for ME. Celemony will be introducing a new music application sometime this coming fall called “Direct Note Access”. This is truly going to be a revolutionary new audio application. You must visit the site and see for yourself what this program will be capable of providing. Also for this week, I did a stroll through a few of the ME Bloggers list over at MusTech.net. I went through the current list and chatted about a few highlights (at least from the ones that caught my attention) from the now “36″ music educators that are now blogging as part of the ME Blogger campaign. I know that Joe is very excited to be over a third of the way to reaching that goal of 100 by the end of this year. Let me know what you think about my take of some of the current ME bloggers. Blessings!

Welcome to episode #20 of Music Tech for ME. Well the 2008 National TI:ME Conference was a very successful event. There were some excellent sessions presented by some of the best music educators/technologist in the country. For this week’s show, I’m going to chat about the event and about a couple of very special sessions that I attended. I was blown away by what is now available for guitarist when it comes to using a guitar as a midi controller. Marc Schonbrun did a terrific session using a Godin guitar as a midi controller with the assistance of the Axon AX-50 guitar to midi converter.

The other session was presented by our friend Joseph Pisano from MusTech.net. He did a superb job in his session titled “Syndicating your voice on the web; Blogging, RSS, Web 2.0 and Music Education”. He said he would be posting information from his session on his site in the very near future. It was also a real pleasure to finally meet Joe in person. I look forward to having Joe as a guest on a future episode of Music Tech for ME. Blessings!

Welcome to episode #18 of Music Tech for ME. ATMI (Association for Technology in Music Instruction) will be the focus for this week’s episode. After attending the 2007 ATMI Conference in Salt Lake City back in November, I decided to use this show to talk about the conference and the organization. Make sure you visit the ATMI website, and if you are not already a member of this organization, give some consideration about becoming a member.
Now due to the Christmas and Holiday season, I will be taking a short break from producing the podcast. There will not be an episode for January 1st. I will, however, attempt to produce the next show for January 15th. By February, I plan on getting back to my regular schedule of producing new shows on the 1st and 15th of each month. So until then, please take care and have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season. Blessings!

<itunes:summary>Welcome to episode #18 of Music Tech for ME. ATMI (Association for Technology in Music Instruction) will be the focus for this week's episode. After attending the 2007 ATMI Conference in Salt Lake City back in November, I decided to use this show to talk about the conference and the organization. Make sure you visit the ATMI website, and if you are not already a member of this organization, give some consideration about becoming a member. The membership information is available on their website.

Welcome to episode #17 of Music Tech for ME. If you keep track of music technology news, you will know that there have been numerous changes within the industry over the last few years. Many of these industry changes have had an impact on many of the applications we use within music technology. In this week’s episode, I had the opportunity to interview Robin Hodson. Robin is the Eastern Region Manager for Sibelius. Aside from talking about some interesting products available form Sibelius (by the way…. no discussions about the music notation program Sibelius. This was covered in an interview back in episode #9), Robin talks about the advantages of being a part of a very large music technology conglomerate. We also talk about the future of music technology applications and its impact on music education.

Welcome to episode #14 of Music Tech for ME. Back on episode #11, I gave a brief news report about an upgrade to the music notation program called “Notion”. On the post and on the show, I stated that I was interested in interviewing someone from Notion Music to talk about this program. Well a few weeks ago, I received a phone call from the marketing department offering me an opportunity to interview their VP of Marketing and Sales. So for this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jim Boitnott of Notion Music. After chatting with Jim, I quickly discovered that there was much more to this program (and this company) than just simply being another music notation program. I suggest you to go over to the Notion Music website and check out their flagship program “Notion” as well as several other innovative products they are developing. Blessings!

Welcome to episode #12 of Music Tech for ME. Did you ever think, that there would be a day, that you could sit at home and have a music lesson with a teacher who was not physically (in person) in the room with you? Well guess what…. that day has arrived! For this week’s episode, I interviewed Carol Johnson. Carol is the founder and creator of “The Virtual School of Music”. The school is an online source for live music instruction. They provide one-to-one music instruction for various musical instruments. They also provide individual classes in music theory, jazz improvisation, music education courses for music teachers, and their new College Prep Programs. Carol and I chat about the ins and outs of providing music instruction online. What are your thoughts on providing “Online” music instruction? Let me know what you think about his week’s topic by providing a post or sending me an email. Blessings!

They also provide individual classes in music theory, jazz improvisation, music education courses for music teachers, and their new College Prep Programs. Carol and I chat about the ins and outs of providing music instruction online. What are your thoughts on providing "Online" music instruction? Let me know what you think about his week's topic by providing a post or sending me an email. Blessings!

Welcome to episode #11 of Music Tech for ME. This week’s show contains some brief news about yet another updated version of a music notation program. This latest update comes for the program “Notion”. As soon as I can find a contact person from Notion Music, I hope to provide you with another interview so we can hear about the new features. Also on this week’s show, I will share with you a couple of personal technology experiences that I think you will find of interest. The first story deals with upgrading one of the school’s Audio/Midi labs, and the second story is about my experience using a wireless internet router from home. So download this episode and load it into your favorite mp3 player. Afterwards, drop me post or email and let me hear your thoughts about this week’s show or anything else you think would be of interest to other music educators. Blessings!

Welcome to episode #10 of Music Tech for ME. After our interview with Larry Marchese from Sibelius during the last episode, I thought it only fair to have someone from Make Music on the show. So for this week’s episode, I had the opportunity to interview Tom Carruth. Tom is a product specialist for Make Music. Make Music is the developer for the music notation program “Finale”. Back in June, Make Music released their latest version of Finale… “Finale 2008″. Tom took the time for a phone interview to discuss the many new features and updates in Make Music’s flagship program, “Finale 2008″. We also talked about the other music education products that are also being developed by Make Music. The picture below shows one of the very cool new features in Finale 2008. You can load an audio file into your Finale document for playback. This is a great feature for those that need to transcribe music from an audio recording.

Welcome to episode #8 of Music Tech for ME. “What is the best approach for learning and implementing a new form of technology?”. In this episode, we are going to offer some suggestions for answering this question. We will discuss 8 methods (or, suggestions) you could use for learning a new technology. If you are going to take the time to learn a music notation program, a DAW program, or maybe even a new hardware device, I hope that one or more of these methods will assist you in your learning process. If you have a suggestion or method that you would like to share, please post it or send me an email. Blessings!

MacAuthority in Nashville, TN hosted an event last night that showed the many new and exciting features in the latest release of the music notation program “Sibelius”. Larry Marchese, (educational manager for Sibelius USA), was so kind to do a presentation of the new release. Below is a listing of some of the new features.

Mac Universal/Intel Compatibility

VST and AU (Audio Units) support

Some 185 new sounds from various libraries

M-Audio’s “Key Rig” is included

Panorama View (which is the same as “Scroll View” in Finale)

Much easier Cues and Instrument changes

More controll of page layout

Several new Plug-ins (which are now “Undoable”)

New Mixer (this new mixer is similar to the one that was in Sibelius 1) with audio effect processing. You can bus and create sub-groups)

Ideas Hub: A nice feature that allows you to capture and re-use snippets of music. These snippets can be saved to a library and accessed at anytime

Welcome to episode #5 of Music Tech for ME. Over the next few weeks, I will begin the process of creating a Resource Links page. So instead of filling up space in the blog roll, I thought that a dedicated page just for links would be easier to manage and to update. So this week’s podcast episode is dedicated to 10 websites that I find of value for music technology and music education. Per my request in the podcast, please submit to me your 2 to 3 sites that you use or that you think would be of interest to other music educators. Send those to me via the email link on the sidebar. Blessings!

Music Tech for ME Episode #3

Hello everyone. I’m so sorry, but I have to post Episode #3 again. As you all know, I am very new at all of this and I’m making a few mistakes. I posted episode #3 yesterday but made an error in getting the show to post in the iTunes search. So thanks for your patience as I go through my learning stage. But on a brighter note, I also have another resource for you to check out. In episode #3, I talk about the basic components of the computer based DAW. One of which, is the Keyboard Midi Controller. Right after I attempted my post yesterday, I came across the 2007 February issue of “Keyboard Magazine”. The main feature for that issue was “Controller Keyboards” where they reviewed over 20 different Midi Keyboard controllers. It was a great article! Check out the link to Keyboard Magazine and try to get a back copy of that issue.

Have a blessed day!

There were many days that I thought this would never happen, but with the help from a terrific web designer (Adam Christianson of Terraform Creative Services), the site is now Live! Soon to follow…. I will be posting my first podcast episode. Please be on the look out for the premier show that will explain the purpose and mission for the website and podcast. Below, is the excellent album art that Adam also created. You should see it up on iTunes and other podcast directories in the very near future. Until then, have a blessed day!
