Greetings everyone! MacAuthority in Nashville, TN hosted an event last night that showed the many new and exciting features in the latest release of the music notation program “Sibelius”. Larry Marchese, (educational manager for Sibelius USA), was so kind to do a presentation of the new release. Below is a listing of some of the new features.
- Mac Universal/Intel Compatibility
- VST and AU (Audio Units) support
- Some 185 new sounds from various libraries
- M-Audio’s “Key Rig” is included
- Panorama View (which is the same as “Scroll View” in Finale)
- Much easier Cues and Instrument changes
- More controll of page layout
- Several new Plug-ins (which are now “Undoable”)
- New Mixer (this new mixer is similar to the one that was in Sibelius 1) with audio effect processing. You can bus and create sub-groups)
- Ideas Hub: A nice feature that allows you to capture and re-use snippets of music. These snippets can be saved to a library and accessed at anytime
See for yourself these and other new features of “Sibelius 5″ at the Sibelius website.

Welcome to episode #5 of Music Tech for ME. Over the next few weeks, I will begin the process of creating a Resource Links page. So instead of filling up space in the blog roll, I thought that a dedicated page just for links would be easier to manage and to update. So this week’s podcast episode is dedicated to 10 websites that I find of value for music technology and music education. Per my request in the podcast, please submit to me your 2 to 3 sites that you use or that you think would be of interest to other music educators. Send those to me via the email link on the sidebar. Blessings!
